The Challenge
The client's existing dashboard couldn't handle peak load — it would lag or crash when transaction volume spiked above 800K/day. Their ops team was exporting CSV files and analyzing them manually in Excel. They needed something that could scale to millions of transactions without falling over.
What We Did
We rebuilt the analytics layer from scratch using TimescaleDB for time-series data and introduced a WebSocket-based real-time feed instead of polling. The UI was redesigned around the actual workflows of their ops analysts — not around what looked good in a demo. We spent two weeks just shadowing the team to understand how they actually used the data.
The Result
The platform now processes 5M+ transactions daily without performance degradation. Response time dropped from 3+ seconds to under 200ms at the 95th percentile. The ops team stopped exporting CSVs entirely — their words, not ours. The system passed compliance audit on the first attempt.
What We'd Do Differently
We initially underestimated how much custom visualization work the ops team would need. Added 3 weeks to the timeline to build out specific chart types they requested mid-project. Should have done deeper discovery on reporting requirements upfront.
